同好の士を探すために他のインスタンスのProfile Directory見に行った人、どれくらい居るの？みたいなところはある（もしかしなくても自分のいるインスタンスで探すのに使ったことない人もいそうだが…）

検索エンジンによるインデックス拒否のチェックボックスがあるし、Profile Directoryの外部からの検索可否がオプトインであってもいいかもしれない（が、あの設定画面に更にチェックボックスが増えるの嫌がられそうみたいなのはある）

そろそろユーザを探すのにProfile Directoryを活用しよう2019はちょっとあって、まあでも他のインスタンスわざわざ見に行くのなあになるとそっちの横断的な検索は需要があるのかもしれない…になった

FTLで「このサーバの視界にあるfediverse」を見せるの、はじめての人にそれが全てだと思われてもなあがある…LTLをそこに表示することについてはちょっと直ぐには考えをまとめきれない

It's not really a question of whether the public timeline should be browserable or not. We can just add a dedicated page using the public hashtag page design. But no reason to have that be the first thing you see.

まあ常に /about にのっけるのが必要とまでは思わないかなあ…見たかったらここから見れるよ的な動線は残しておきたい気はするけど、 https://md-tpt.yukimochi.io/ とかでも良いわけだし。

Side note: Many servers already opt out of showing a preview on their frontpage at all, for various reasons.

The original reason for adding the timeline preview was proving to the visitor that Mastodon is active, and for experienced users, to discover people from other servers.
I think the problem is that the preview as an attraction mechanism can backfire. It amplifies the impact of spammers. First impressions are important, after all.

I'm getting a bit self-conscious about how many times I have redesigned the Mastodon landing page, but I have to admit the conversation around the old screenshot I shared sparked in me a desire to change it again, remove the timeline preview and just leave a sign up and a login form, and information about who runs the server.
